Maple watches over Gold Circle films
Canada distributor inks multi-year deal with co.

MONTREAL -- Canuck distributor Maple Pictures will handle all Gold Circle Films pics in Canada.

The multi-year deal -- Maple did not specify how many years in its announcement Friday -- will begin with "Chilled in Miami," which stars Renée Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr., and "The New Daughter," starring Kevin Costner and Ivana Baquero. The pics are expected to shoot next year and be released in 2009.

Toronto-based Maple already handles all Lionsgate pics in the country. Pact is the latest in a slew of new output deals being signed with Canuck film companies.

Entertainment One, which is set to become a major player in the theatrical biz here, recently signed an output deal with Summit Entertainment, and Alliance Films signed an output deal with Overture Films.

The Maple/Gold Circle deal was announced by Maple co-presidents Laurie May and Brad Pelman, and Gold Circle Films partners Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer.

Maple topped the box office in Canada this past week with its release of "Saw IV."
